The warm comforting glow of candle light is made even more beneficial when it is combined with Himalayan Pink Salt and Essential Oils. Himalayan Salt Candle Diffusers are easy to make, and a great way to infuse the air in your home with the benefits of aromatherapy and pink salt.
Start by mixing 1/2 cup of Himalayan Pink Salt with 5 – 10 drops of essential oil. We’ve included some suggested blends below. To find more aromatherapy blends, check aroma web.com, one of our favorite sources for aromatherapy recipes and essential oil information.
Pour the scented salt into a heat-safe vessel, such as a candle holder or mason jar. Nestle an unscented candle into the center of the salt, then light the wick. The warmth of the candle will activate the salt and help release the scents of essential oil into the air.
Why Himalayan Pink Salt? Besides being incredibly pretty, Himalayan Pink Salt is widely believed to aid in cleansing and detoxifying the air. It’s absorbent nature and rich mineral content make it an ideal base for salt candle diffusers. If you prefer, you can use a different type of salt, like Dead Sea Salt, Bolivian Pink Salt, or Sea Salt to make your salt candle diffuser – but this one if by far our favorite!

Will just the candle and sea salt still be effective without the oils? I’ve been told by the vet that essential oils are not cat safe and I don’t want to take chances with their health. But I do love that look and the benefits from the salts are too good. Thanks!
Hello Meg, yes, you can still enjoy the benefits of the Himalayan salt without the essential oils.
Where did you purchase the cute jars?
Hi Sue! These jars were from Target.
Hello. How do you avoid the melting wax from getting all over the salt?
Hello Stephanie, You can try placing the candle in a glass votive or use a self-contained tea light. We hope that helps!
Wow, this aromatherapy would surely go so well during a Friday night bath to set me up for the weekend. I think I would prefer to use lemon-scented salt crystals though. Its citrus notes would help me reminisce about the lemons from the farmer’s market I always went to with my mom when I was a kid.
It’s magical how certain aromas can bring us right back to memories from long ago. Thank you for sharing yours! We love lemon, too. We’ve even included it in a couple of our suggested blends on this post. But, it can be wonderful on it’s own, as well.
Could you use a heat plate(like the ones for melting jar candles)? Instead of a candle to heat the salt?
Hello Ashley, We haven’t tested the formulation on a heat plate/candle jar warmer. Please let us know your results if you give it a try!
Totally trying this! I will try a lavender, rosemary, bergamot essential oil blend. Thanks for this post.
Hello! Can I ask to questions, I’m curious?1.This is on them same mechanism with the himalayan salt candle holder?
2. Would it be a same if I chose a long candle and put the salt around it in a jar? Or the sort tea candles are better?
Thanks for the reply.
Hello Lea! Yes, this would be a similar concept as the Himalayan salt candle holder. We have not tested with a longer candle, but enjoyed using the smaller candle for safety purposes and the heat’s proximity to the salts.
