The bright orange color of this salt scrub comes from Carrot Oil. We’ve used this boldly colored oil in a small proportion due to its potency. The majority of the Oil in this recipe is Rice Bran Oil, a moisturizing Oil with a pleasant, light texture. The scrub is scented with Ginger and Tangerine Essential Oils, giving it a sunny, energizing aroma to match its bright, cheerful appearance.
Ginger Crush Salt Scrub
Makes about 4 ounces
Ingredients
1/2 cup Sea Salt, Fine
1 ounce Rice Bran Oil
1 teaspoon Carrot Oil
10 drops Ginger Essential Oil
20 drops Tangerine Essential Oil
Directions
In a small mixing bowl, combine the Sea Salt, Carrot Oil, and Rice Bran Oil. Stir the mixture well to ensure an even color in the scrub. Next, add the Tangerine and Ginger Essential Oils, and mix again. Carefully spoon the mixture into jars when finished.
Usage & Packaging
Citrus Essential Oils, such as Tangerine Essential Oil, can cause photosensitivity. Keep this in mind when using this scrub. The Scrub should either be followed with a body wash, or used at night to reduce sensitivity caused by the Essential Oil.
This scrub looks great packaged in PET Jars with White Lids.

Yum! This looks really nice, I love ginger especially in the winter, lime eo might be nice with the ginger, too. I think I will whip up a batch with the tangerine and some with lime…I will do sugar as in my dry, arid climate it’s less drying…thanks for posting this bright, sunny recipe!

What are other oils besides carrot oil that can be used as colorants in scrubs?
Emmy Gabriel says
Many Carrier Oils, and Extracts have bright colors, and can be used to incorporate natural color into formula. Another bright red/orange Oil is Seabuckthorn Oil. These orange toned Oils have some of the most potent pigments of the Carrier Oils that we carry. However, there are several green colored Oils that can add a slight tint or hue to scrubs and other recipes, these Oils include Tamanu Oil, Cucumber Seed Oil, and Green Coffee Oil.
Some CO2 Extracts with strong colors are Organic Calendula Total, Seabuckthorn Berry Seed, Helio Carrot Root Total CO2, and Organic Seabuckthorn Berry Pulp.

Great sounding recipe. Boy, the carrot oil is expensive, though. I was thinking maybe annatto seed powder for color (mix with oil in advance) and perhaps even add ginger root powder to the mix.
Nom nom…

Great ideas on the color alternatives. Let me know if they work out! Another option is Carrot Root Total CO2, Seabuckthorn Oil or Seabuckthorn C02. The CO2 Extracts are nice and potent so you would only need a couple drops.

What is a good substitute for rice bran oil? Is that a carrier oil?
Lauren says
Doesn’t the oil/Salt separate? Is it necessary to add some kind of emulsifier? Like beeswax?
