Squalene, an organic compound found in human sebum, is an important key to naturally healthy skin. Squalene keeps skin in top condition by keeping it hydrated, fighting wrinkles and other signs of aging, and encouraging the growth of healthy cells. While the body naturally contains squalene internally, and in skin’s sebum, topical application of additional Squalene can help boost its benefits. Squalene can be added to creams, serums, masks, and other formulations to enhance their benefit.
The majority of commercially available Squalene comes from deep sea shark liver oil, but it is also found in certain plant oils, including wheatgerm, amaranth seed, rice bran, and olive. Olive Oil has proven to be one of the richest sources of vegetable squalene, giving us yet another reason to adore the olive tree. This resource is a great benefit to vegan and vegetarian skin care enthusiasts, as it allows them to enhance their formulations with the benefits of Squalene without the complication of its usual source.
Olive Squalene is odorless, colorless, and blends easily with oil based ingredients. It does quite well in emulsions, making it an ideal additive for facial creams, body lotions, and hair conditioners. It has a light texture and spreads easily over the skin, creating a moisture barrier that can help to protect and heal dry, damaged skin. Vegetable Squalene is highly recommended for use in the treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, and can be used to treat even severely dry hair, nails, and cuticles. This highly beneficial ingredient can be used to enhance almost any skin or hair care treatment, as it may be helpful for a wide range of purposes.

Is there any difference in effect between vegetable squalene oil and animal squalene oil?
Emmy Gabriel says
As far as I know, there should be little difference when it comes to skin care between animal and vegetable based Squalene. The two are very chemically similar, so they should produce similar effects. Vegetable based Squalene is an important option for vegans, vegetarians, and environmentalists who would like to use the ingredient, as deep sea shark fishing is not a practice that everyone supports.

Vegetable squalane is stable, shark squalene isn’t. No animal should die just for our vanity. Enough die from our over consumption. Olive squalane has the exact same properties and it won’t loose is potency over time.
