Lazy summer days and mud masks go awfully well together. This concoction of deep cleansing Dead Sea Mud and refreshing Cucumber Seed Oil is perfect for a quick pick-me-up. Slice up a fresh cucumber to cover your eyes to make the experience extra special.
Deep Cleansing Mud Masque
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Dead Sea Mud
- 1.5 teaspoons Cucumber Seed Oil
- 5 drops Organic Spearmint Essential Oil
- 5 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
Directions
In a small mixing bowl, combine the Dead Sea Mud and Cucumber Seed Oil. Mix well to combine, than add the Essential Oils and mix again.
Usage
This mask is best used fresh. Apply it liberally to moistened skin, avoiding your eyes, nose, and lips. Discard the leftover, or share with a friend. Cover your eyes with slices of fresh cucumber, then relax for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse the mask away, and follow with your favorite toner and moisturizer.

omg. I can’t wait to try this!
I started using natural Masks in middle school when my mother filled my Christmas stocking with goodies from Caswell Massey’s.

Looks really good in the picture! Is this a generic picture or after making it? Also, what would be a good alternative to cucumber seed oil?
Emmy Gabriel says
Hi Sarah. Though we use original photos as much as possible, this particular post is using a stock photo. Mud is not a very photogenic ingredient! The mask should have a similar appearance when made up, though it may be a little more shiny than the mud pictured here, due to the inclusion of Cucumber Seed Oil. You can substitute the Cucumber Seed Oil with any carrier oil that is suitable for facial formulations. Some of my favorites are Rosehip, Red Raspberry and Grapeseed. For some more ideas, check out the oils mentioned in the following article.

Hi Kelly Ann. It sounds like you have made a lot of mask recipes over the years. I hope that you enjoy this one. Please let us know how it goes!

I am very excited to try this! I am just getting introduced to new home made and natural recipes. I am finding that those are far more beneficial and effective for my skin than anything I have ever bought in the store. How often should I apply the mask? Typical once a week?
The Natural Beauty Workshop says
Hi Amy. Congrats on getting into a very rewarding new hobby! If there is anything you are hoping to learn more about, please let us know. As for this mask, its best to be used once a week at the maximum, because it can be drying. Make sure to use a good moisturizer after each use.

I’m curious if made in bigger batches what the shelf life on something like this might be?
Cam says
I was thinking the same.

Dead Sea Mud is a wonderful ingredient. I’m sure you’ll love it, Whedan!
Alex says
Hi,
To create natural products like this, how would we preserve them to
make as gifts or baby shower and bridal parties?
Is there a non-paraben preservative? With ratio info?
Thank you!
The Natural Beauty Workshop says
Hi Alex. The easiest solution is to stick to products that are shelf-stable. This usually means avoiding recipes that include water or water-based ingredients like aloe vera gel, milk, hydrosol, etc. Shelf-stable products like lip balms, bar soaps, and baths salts won’t require preservatives to be shared.
