This tropical scented sugar scrub uses Honey Granules and Coconut Milk Powder to enhance its cleansing ability. Tiny Jojoba Wax Beads give it a touch of color, and Water Dispersible Apricot Kernel Oil makes it rinsable. We scented it with our mouth watering Papaya Milk Fragrance Oil, a luscious mix of papaya and cream fragrances.
Papaya Smoothie Sugar Scrub
Makes about 4 ounces
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Turbinado Sugar
- 2 ounces Water Dispersible Apricot Kernel Oil
- 1 tablespoon Coconut Milk Powder
- 1 tablespoon Honey Granules
- 2 teaspoons Tangerine Jojoba Wax Beads
- 1/4 ounce Papaya Milk Fragrance Oil
Directions
Combine the Coconut Milk Powder and Honey Granules in a medium sized mixing bowl. Add the Water Dispersible Apricot Kernel Oil and mix well, making sure to break up any clumps in the dry ingredients. Add the Papaya Milk Fragrance Oil, followed by the Turbinado Sugar and Tangerine Jojoba Wax Beads. Stir the mixture well, dispersing the ingredients evenly throughout the mixture. Transfer to jars.
Usage & Packaging
This scrub looks great in our 2 oz. or 4 oz. Flat PET Jars with White Caps. To use, gently massage the scrub over wet skin in a circular motion, then rinse. This scrub should be used as a body or foot scrub. It would not be suitable for the face.

This looks DELISH!!!! Are preservatives needed if you wanted to make a bigger batch to distribute?
Emmy Gabriel says
Hello Jai.  Im glad you enjoyed the recipe!  Its always a good idea to add a preservative to any scrub you intend to distribute.  Though the base recipe is pretty stable, there is no telling how it will be handled once it leaves your hands.  I would suggest checking out Grapefruit Seed Extract or Liquapar Oil as possible preservatives.  For more info on using them, check out the links on this page: https://naturalbeautyworkshop.com/my_weblog/preservatives.html
Tasanee Jordan says
Can the grapefruit seed extract be added to any salt or sugar scrub? How much shelf life would it give to scrubs with actual fruit? Can it be added to body butter?
The Natural Beauty Workshop says
Hi Tasanee. You can definitely add GSE to this recipe to help ward off bacteria and other microbes. With the added GSE the scrub should be stable for several weeks, but keep an eye on it for any change in color, texture, or smell. Its best to work in small batches and use them quickly to be safe. I wouldnt advise storing scrubs that include fresh fruit. Instead, make up a batch and use it right away. In order to preserve something like that youd need to consult a lab to make sure its safe. As far as body butter goes, which type of preservative to use will depend on what is in your recipe. We have some great articles available on preservation. Heres a link to a list for you to check out:Â https://naturalbeautyworkshop.com/my_weblog/preservatives.html

I can not find the tangerine jojoba wax beads on the website… are they out of stock? Are the beads what gives the scrub it’s color, or will any color beads work? thanks
The Natural Beauty Workshop says
Hi Nyxie, I’m sorry that we no longer offer Jojoba Wax Beads in tangerine. The combination of the Tangerine Jojoba Wax Beads and the Turbinado Sugar are primarily what gives the Papaya Smoothie Sugar Scrub its unique color. However, we still offer Jojoba Wax Beads in a range of other colors, and you can use this recipe as a basis for your own custom Smoothie Sugar Scrub by using the Fragrance Oil and Jojoba Wax Bead color of your choice. You can find our Fragrance Oils here: http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/FO-S.asp and our Jojoba Wax Beads here: http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/Waxes.asp#ExOilWax — You’ll find that most all of our Fragrance Oils list suggested colors that coordinate with the Fragrance Oil. I see lots of yummy fragrance and color possibilities for cutomizing this recipe, and hope you have a lot of fun using it as inspiration for your own unique creations!

Hello, since you don’t have water dispersible oils can I just use regular oils instead?
Kelly Owens (Moderator) says
Hello Dee Dee! Please feel free to use any oil you have on hand in place of the Water Dispersible Apricot Kernel Oil. Water dispersible oils can rinse off the skin and tub easier, but conventional Apricot Kernel Oil, or another carrier oil, will be just as beneficial to your skin.
