Aging gracefully is something that I think many of us strive to do. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, a great attitude, and a positive outlook go a long way, but DIY skin care can help too. Mother Nature has quite a few beauty secrets up her sleeve, and with today’s growing selection of botanical ingredients at our fingertips, we can take advantage of the best she has to offer.

What should I use as a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer for my mature skin. I have normal to dry skin. But I really would like a natural product.

Hi Elizabeth. You can create your own cleansers, toners, and moisturizers easily using natural ingredients. I’ll give you some links to help you get started. For a cleanser, I’d recommend creating a simple powdered cleanser for everyday use. We have some instructions on doing this here: https://naturalbeautyworkshop.com/my_weblog/2011/09/creating-everyday-facial-cleansers-from-natural-ingredients.html
For toners, I really love using plain Hydrosols. We have some advice on picking the right Hydrosol for your skin type here: https://naturalbeautyworkshop.com/my_weblog/2012/02/make-your-own-all-natural-facial-toners.html
As for moisturizers, you can create a simple fresh cream or make things even simpler by using a moisturizing facial oil. The latter is my personal favorite, as facial oils are so easy to make and use. Any of the oils we mention in this article would be great for use in both creams and facial oils. I get confused, I always see the oils how great. They are. But never on portions, drops (how many) to use, blend which leads me to believe it should be applied directly so as I read on, there are remarks on combining with other carrier oils…Oh my!.. I am 52, my skin has changed so much since menopause! Now I have acne that I never experienced breakouts like this! Mainly on the side of my nose and chin. I don’t know why. I have read more women who are at this stage menopause experience this. I also deal with other part so dry, when I moisturize I break out! Could you pleas provide some help in this area? Recipes would be VERY helpful as well!

Usage for each ingredient varies by type. While Carrier Oils can be used directly on the skin as-is, Essential Oils and CO2 Extracts must be diluted in Carrier Oils first. To make an oil blend for your face, start by blending together up to four Carrier Oils (you can use equal portions to make this easy). Essential Oils and/or CO2 Extracts can be added to the blend at a rate of 6 – 18 drops for every ounce of Carrier Oil.
