Switching to a fragrance-free hair care routine can be a great choice for your health and your hair, but it can be hard to give up the fruity and floral scents that come with classic shampoo. Whether you’ve gone No-Poo, embraced the shampoo bar, or have simply dialed down the amount of fragrance in your daily routine, you may be looking for a healthy way to add back some of that old magic.
Hydrosols are just the thing! These all-natural, water-based ingredients are created as a byproduct of Essential Oils. While they do contain trace properties, just like Essential Oils, they are far more mild, which means that you can use them as much as you like without worrying about overdoing it. Basically, you can fill a Sprayer Bottle with Hydrosol and spritz to your heart’s content, flooding your tresses with cheerful, floral aroma.
Most Hydrosols have very herbaceous aromas. While these aren’t at all unpleasant, they aren’t exactly the kind of thing I’d like to have perfuming my hair. When it comes to hair spritzes, my absolute favorites are Neroli and Rose. Rose is great for a classic feminine scent, while Neroli (orange blossom) adds a little bit of sunshine and citrus to the mix.
As an added bonus, you’ll enjoy a little bit of aromatherapy along with great smelling hair. Rose Hydrosol is thought to help regulate hormones, fight symptoms of PMS, and provide balance to the mind, body and spirit. Neroli Hydrosol is believed to help enhance your mood by providing a sense of well being while calming and relaxing your energy level.
To use, simply fill a Sprayer Bottle with Hydrosol, then spritz your hair generously. You can spray on your Hydrosol just after showering, or occasionally throughout the day to give your aromatic aura a little boost.
