Halloween is right around the corner. Before we know it the time will come for spooky costumes and wild makeup. While costumes and jack-o-lanterns might get a little creepy now and then – it’s the dangers that might be lurking in your costume makeup that should really give you the jitters. Artificial dyes, preservatives and petroleum-based ingredients – yuck! Why not try making a batch of this homemade face paint instead.
I used some of our Aloe & Shea Butter Lotion Base to whip this recipe up, but you could certainly swap the Base out with some handmade lotion if you are feeling ambitious. As for the colors – I experimented with Pearlescent Micas, Oxides, Ultramarines, and even natural Herbs! I would encourage you to have fun trying out your own colors too. The possibilities are endless.
Face Paint
Makes about four ounces
Ingredients
- 4 ounces Aloe & Shea Butter Lotion Base
- 1/2 cup Cornstarch
- Assorted Micas, Oxides & Ultramarines, and Herbs
Directions
- Combine the Lotion Base and Cornstarch in a mixing bowl, then stir together.
- Divide the Lotion Base between six containers, then 1/2 teaspoon of colorant to each. Mix well, then add more color if needed.
To make the colors pictured here, I used Aqua Green Oxide, Gold Karat Sparkle Mica, Pink Glimmer Mica, Ultramarine Blue Oxide, Royal Eggplant Mica, and Black Oxide. I added an extra 1/2 teaspoon of colorant to the black face paint to give it an extra dark shade.
Usage & Packaging
This soft paint is best applied with a small paint brush or foam pad. Keep the paint away from the eyes, nose, and mouth. You can store the colors individually in small jars, like our 25 ml Sifter Jars or our 1 Ounce Clear Dome Lip Balm Jars.
