Chickpea Flour is called “Besan” in India where the simple powder is used as a main ingredient in skin care treatments for the face and body.
Recipes for besan facials or “face packs” come in countless varieties, being easily customized to specific skin types or issues. The following recipes are Besan Facials made with some of our favorite natural beauty ingredients.
You can elaborate on these recipes or create your own original Besan Facial by adding Herbs, Clays, Carrier Oils, and Hydrosols. Essential Oils can also be added to enhance your facial even further.
Classic Besan Facial
This simple, three-ingredient recipe is a great example of your most basic Besan Facial. It is suitable for most skin types, but may be especially helpful for dull, dry skin.
- 2 tablespoons Chickpea Flour
- 1 tablespoon Turmeric Powder
- 2 tablespoons Whole Milk Powder
- 2 – 3 tablespoons water
To Use: Mix powders with water, then apply to the face. Allow the mask to dry, then rinse with warm water.
Rose Yogurt Besan Facial
An excellent recipe for mature skin, this facial combines the cleansing properties of Chickpea Flour with soothing, balancing Rose.
- 2 tablespoons Chickpea Flour
- 1 tablespoon Rose Petal Powder
- 2 tablespoons Yogurt Powder
- 5 drops Rose Essential Oil
- 2 – 3 tablespoons water
To Use: Mix powders and Essential Oil with water, then apply to the face. Allow the mask to dry, then rinse with warm water.
Cucumber Honey Besan Facial
Cucumber is a treasured skin care ingredient due to its ability to nourish and hydrate the skin. Cucumber Seed Oil makes a wonderful addition to the Besan Facial as well as soothing yogurt and cleansing honey.
- 2 tablespoons Chickpea Flour
- 1 tablespoon Honey Powder
- 2 tablespoons Yogurt Powder
- 1 teaspoon Cucumber Seed Oil
- 2 – 3 tablespoons water or pureed cucumber
To Use: Mix powders and Cucumber Seed Oil with water or pureed fresh cucumber, then apply to the face. Allow the mask to dry, then rinse with warm water.
Neem Honey Besan Facial
Neem can sometimes get a bad rap for its overly odorous nature, but this powerful herbal ingredient is an excellent tool in the battle for acne-free skin. Both Neem Oil and Neem Powder contain potent antibacterial properties. Paired with the antiseptic and cleansing benefits of Honey and Chickpea Flour, this besan facial is a prime example of acne-fighting plant power.
- 2 tablespoons Chickpea Flour
- 1 tablespoon Honey Powder
- 2 tablespoons Neem Powder
- 1 teaspoon Neem Oil
- 2 – 3 tablespoons water
To Use: Mix powders and Neem Oil with water, then apply to the face. Allow the mask to dry, then rinse with warm water.
Apple Lemon Besan Facial
Apples, Rose Hips, Parsley, and Lemon are all rich in Vitamin C, a component often used in skin care formulations meant to brighten the skin. This mask is packed not only with Vitamin C, but also with alpha-hydroxy acids and essential fatty acids.
- 2 tablespoons Chickpea Flour
- 2 tablespoons Parsley Powder
- 1 – 2 tablespoons Unsweetened Applesauce
- 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
- 1 teaspoon Rose Hip Seed Oil
To Use: To Use: Mix powders and Rose Hip Seed Oil with the Applesauce and Lemon Juice, then apply to the face. (Water can also be added if the mixture remains too dry.) Allow the mask to dry for five minutes, then rinse with warm water.
