Strawberry Hibiscus Lip Balm: A sweetly scented lip balm made with Cold Pressed Strawberry and Hibiscus Seed Oils
I love when natural carrier oils end up retaining a little bit of the aroma from their original plant. Strawberry Seed Oil is one of these rare gems. It doesn’t smell candy-sweet like a synthetic strawberry fragrance. Instead, it has a mild and slightly sweet and sour aroma that comes from the seeds that are pressed to make it. This smell does tend to get a little lost when added to formulations, but it’s an absolute treat in serums, massage oils, and body oils.
We used Strawberry Seed Oil as our main inspiration for the following lip balm. Blended with a mix of Mango Butter, Hibiscus Seed Oil, and Clear Jojoba, the balm has a smooth and slippery texture that is light on the lips and perfect for spring and summer weather. We added a splash of Cherry Plant-Based Fragrance Oil to enhance the scent of our Strawberry Hibiscus Lip Balm, but you can absolutely leave this recipe unscented and still enjoy it very much.
A pinch of FDA Coral Mica was also added as a fun and optional detail. Since hibiscus doesn’t lend color to oil-based formulations we decided that this would be the best way to mimic that iconic red that we love in hibiscus tea!
Strawberry Hibiscus Lip Balm
Makes about six 0.3 ounce tubes
Ingredients
- 15 grams White Beeswax Pellets
- 30 grams Mango Butter
- 15 ml Organic Hibiscus Seed Oil
- 15 ml Strawberry Seed Oil
- 15 ml Organic Clear Jojoba Oil
- 0.65 ml (1/8 teaspoon) Cherry Plant-Based Fragrance Oil, optional
- 3/4 teaspoon FDA Coral Mica
Directions
- In double-boiler, combine beeswax, mango butter, and jojoba oil and heat gently over medium-high heat until ingredients are fully melted and combined.
- Remove double-boiler from heat and add hibiscus and strawberry seed oils. Stir well, then add mica and plant-based fragrance oil, if using.
- Pour melted balm carefully into lip balm tube containers. Allow balms to fully cool and harden before handling.
Usage & Packaging
- We packed our Strawberry Hibiscus Lip Balm in our 0.3 Ounce Paperboard Tubes. We love how the natural color of the paper contrasts with the cheerful color of the balm. You can also use any standard lip balm container for this recipe – including our Plastic Lip Balm Tubes, our Slider Tins, or our Clear Dome Jars.
- To use, simply apply to dry lips as often as you like. Strawberry Hibiscus Lip Balm doesn’t add much color to lips alone, but can be used under lip color for an extra pop of moisture.

What a great blog on DIY lip balm. The lip balm would be so much better than the store bought stuff my husband brings me. I like exotic things and this fits the bill. Easy to make and with the lip balm tubes, a cinch. My husband and I are both dry lip suffers. This product would certainly help people like us!

Hello, can you add hibiscus powder to this formula too?
Kelly Owens (Moderator) says
Hello Dee Dee. Hibiscus Petal Powder will not dissolve and will remain gritty in a lip balm formulation.

Can I add lecithin and seabuckthorn seed oil to this?
