Note: We've discontinued Egg Oil, but we carry quite a few other oils that are great for hair care – including Ungurahui, Pequi, Camelina, and Oat Oil. I would suggest replacing the Egg Oil in this recipe with one of those. You can read about our favorite Carrier Oils for hair care here: Our Favorite Carrier Oils for Natural Hair Care
This thick, creamy, emollient hair mask is packed with ingredients that can help nourish, repair, and moisturize tired, dry, and damaged hair. The recipe starts off with our gentle Shea Butter Shampoo Base, an SLS-free formula without any dyes or perfumes. We start off with shampoo so that the mask can rinse easily after being used. It's mixed with a blend of seven rich, moisturizing oils, each specifically chosen for their benefits in hair care.
Egg Oil contains cholesterol, a component that can help reinforce damaged or brittle hair. Amla is well known for its beneficial properties too. It helps to condition hair and encourage a healthy scalp. Jojoba mimic sebum, hair's natural conditioner and protectant. Manketti and Andiroba Oils are extremely moistuirizing, providing dry, damaged hair with intense emollient benefit. Argan and Broccoli Seed Oils help increase snoothness, shine, and luster.

Usage & Packaging
This recipe makes about nine ounces of mask, enough to fill our 8-Ounce Boston Round PET Bottle to the top. We recommend using a Turret, Snap, or Disc Cap for easy use.
The product will settle over time. You may have to shake the mixture before use. Apply a liberal amount of the mixture to clean, towel-dried hair. Leave on for 15 – 20 minutes, then rinse. Use a small amount of shampoo to rinse, if needed. Follow with light conditioner if desired.

This sounds wonderful and easily paired with the like named Hair Serum that you blogged about earlier. My question is how or what are the instructions for using? Is it shampoo mask or an after shampoo conditioner mask?

Hello NBW,
I was wondering in adding the carrier oils or vegetable oils to the shampoo base if it is good only for a conditioner. Could it be used for a shampoo as well or would it be to oily and heavy.
Thank You

Hi Elisabeth. As-is, this recipe would be too oily to use as a shampoo. However, you could add a smaller amount of the oil blend in this recipe to enhance a shampoo base. I would try using a few tablespoons of oil per 16 ounces of shampoo.

Hi, I was wondering what the shelf life is on this concoction Does it need a preservative? If so, what could/should I use? Thanks in advance for the reply 🙂
