The first word that may come to mind when you hear the word "Chia" is "Pet". Those funny little tchotchkes shaped like farm animals and cartoon characters are pretty hard to forget. I remember wanting one so badly as a child, that I saved up all of the spare quarters and dimes that I could, hustling pocket change from my parents, and selling stickers to my siblings.
When I finally had a few dollars gathered up, I made my the purchase that would begin my too-short career as an amateur gardener. Spreading the seeds and mossy goop over my tiny clay sheep, I had no idea that those little Chia Seeds were good for anything beyond plant-based entertainment.
It turns out that Chia Seeds are pretty marvelous. Originating in Mexico and Guatemala, Chia is actually a member of the mint family. It is believed to have been cultivated by the Aztec as a nutritional grain and food source. Today, Chia is valued in both health food and natural beauty.
Chia Seed produces oil with an exceptional source of omega-three fatty acids. In fact, Chia Seed Oil can contain up to 65% omega-3. That's twice as much as is usually found in Black Raspberry Seed Oil. It also contains a whopping 21% omega-6 and a variety of other beneficial components. Organic Chia Seed Oil is packed with B-vitamins, amino acids, and beauty-loving minerals, such as zinc.
Chia Seed Oil's unique composition makes it an excellent additive for mature skin, anti-aging, and deep-conditioning skin care treatments. Try including our Organic Chia Seed Oil in your favorite cream, mask, or serum formulations.

Hello, looks great but can we do chia seed oil, just by adding a few tablespoon of chia seed into olive oil let’s say.
Thank you so much for all your beautiful recipes and info and looking forward to more and to this response.

Hi Rachelle. Our Chia Seed Oil is pressed from Chia Seeds, like Olive Oil is pressed from Olives. You could create a chia oil infusion with the method you described, but its properties would be different and probably much milder.

Is chia seed oil safe for baby skin?
The Natural Beauty Workshop says
Hi Glenda. I haven’t found any information on using Chia Seed Oil on baby’s topically, but I have found several recipes for baby food that include Chia Seeds to boost protein and fatty acids. I would think that Chia Seed Oil would be OK for baby skin care, but I would suggest double checking with your pediatrician just to make sure.
