Toasted Coconut Sugar Scrub: An exfoliating body scrub made with real coconut.
Update: This popular recipe is now available as a body care craft kit! Our Toasted Coconut Sugar Scrub Kit contains everything you need to make your own batch of this delicious smelling skin care treat.
Body scrubs are such fun to make – and even more fun to use. I love to play around with different kinds of exfoliants when I make new recipes. Salt and sugar are great, but there are so many other interesting ingredients out there to experiment with. Shredded coconut, for example, makes a great addition to body scrubs. Its soft texture, subtle scent, and lovely bright white color make it super versatile.
I combined our Extra Fine Shredded Coconut with cane sugar and a blend of naturally aromatic oils and butters to make a body scrub that is good enough to eat. The mellow aroma of virgin coconut oil smells lovely with a bit of cocoa butter and a splash of vanilla extract. It’s sort of like exfoliating with a really delicious cookie! While I’ve called this recipe Toasted Coconut Sugar Scrub due to its enticing aroma, the coconut used in the recipe is untoasted, as I prefer the softer texture in an exfoliant.
Macadamia Nut Oil makes up the majority of the scrub’s liquid ingredients. It has a wonderful texture that absorbs into the skin quickly while delivering a hefty dose of moisture. This is one of my favorite ingredients for making body scrubs, but if you prefer to use something nut-free, try swapping the macadamia nut oil for apricot or sunflower oil instead.

Can coconut shell powder be added to this?
Kelly Owens (Moderator) says
Hello Dee, Absolutely. Coconut Shell Powder would make a nice addition to this scrub. We recommend adding about 1 tablespoon to this formulation. Though, you can add as little or as much as you wish to suit your personal preference. Enjoy!
