Yuzu & Pink Peppercorn Salt Glow Massage Scrub: an aromatic exfoliating treatment made with Bolivian Pink Salt
When a massage therapist combines their well-honed techniques to relax tense muscles while a slippery scrub exfoliates your skin – well, it doesn’t get much better that that. Or does it? Perhaps adding a luxurious salt scrub, hand crafted from superb ingredients and infused with natural aromas would bring that experience to a whole new level. Our Yuzu and Pink Peppercorn Salt Glow Massage Scrub is meant to inspire such a feat.
Bursting with the juicy scent of yuzu and the stimulating aroma of pink peppercorn, this simple, but spectacular salt glow massage scrub is perfect for rubbing away layers of stress along with dead skin cells. Organic Brazil Nut Oil is a medium-thick carrier oil that provides excellent lubrication for the mineral-rich Bolivian Pink Salt that brings all-important exfoliation to the scrub.
Because this recipe is meant to be used as a salt glow massage scrub, we formulated it with more carrier oil than we would for a typical body scrub. This provides the massage therapist with the extra oil they will need to loosen stiff muscles as they work. This formula could easily be altered to behave as a body scrub by cutting down the amount of carrier oil to something closer to 60-120 ml. Just be sure to also reduce the amount of essential oil used if you reduce the carrier oil. Try to keep the maximum ratio of essential oil below 2%, keeping the pink peppercorn essential oil on the low side as it has the potential to irritate skin.
We opted not to include a preservative in our test formula, but we would recommend that one be added if this recipe is used to create a finished commercial product. Proper preservation and professional challenge testing are best practices for even the smallest cosmetics manufacturers as it can help to protect both the maker and the consumer. About the Ingredients
Bolivian Pink Salt
This rosy colored salt is harvested by hand from an ancient sea bed in the Andes mountains. The salt has a naturally rose color that contains subtle speckles and variegation that make it extra gorgeous. In addition to being incredibly visually attractive, Bolivian Pink Salt also boasts some very impressive mineral content. Among others, Bolivian Pink Salt contains a wealth of calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium, all minerals that are highly sought after for skin and hair care products.
Honey Powder
Honey has been used in natural skin care recipes for ages. The sweet, sticky, substance is a natural humectant. This means that it draws in moisture. Honey can help bring moisture to the skin and to retain it. Honey can also help to stabilize emulsions. Our dehydrated Honey Powder offers formulators a useful alternative to liquid honey. Honey Powder can be used in dry formulations as well as oil-based formulas without the complications that come along with introducing an aqueous substance.
Organic Brazil Nut Oil
Brazil Nut Oil has a slightly richer texture than Camellia, which adds body to scrubs, body oils, and massage blends. It is deeply moisturizing and works well in both hair care and body care products. Brazil Nut Oil provides a smooth, slippery base for massage and makes an excellent carrier for Essential Oils and Co2 Extracts.
Yuzu Essential Oil
This delicate asian citrus has a captivating sweet and sour aroma that evokes feelings of warmth and sunshine. In aromatherapy, Yuzu is often used to promote feelings of happiness and joy. Yuzu makes an excellent addition to skin and hair care formulations as it is a particularly sturdy citrus oil. It’s scent lingers longer than other citrus oils and it is not known to be phototoxic. This makes it suitable for a wide range of applications including lip balms.
Pink Peppercorn Essential Oil
Although Pink and Black Pepper are very different botanically speaking, the two plants carry many similar benefits and components. Perhaps the most noteworthy of these characteristics, especially when used in massage products, is the presence of monoterpenes including a-Phellandrene, Myrcene, Limonene, B-Phellandrene and a-Pinene. Pink Peppercorn possesses an abundance of monoterpenes – about 30% more than Black Pepper. These components are responsible for Pink Peppercorn’s reputation as a stimulating and invigorating essential oil.
